Violet Hughes - Order of the Maunche

Violet Hughes holds sharp dart-like pens

Limber tipped and firm, newly trimmed

Blank Sheets cushioned under her fingertips

Percolating upon the smooth slope

The leaf a fine and uniform script

Set to calligraph, the ennobled East

She’s learnt the roots of letters, stem and branch

For these practiced learned lays

Of clear entrance strokes, and loops ascender

Under and over turns and compound curves

Exploits of wonder ending with each exit stroke

Her longhand is a lullaby of the heart.

With steadfast poise and fair knowledge,

Salient, stout sweet or sinuous

She privately performs repetitions

in preparation for the public appearance

These exercises administer toward

Honing her mind through mechanical rehearsal

Today at Østgardr’s Investiture, Anno Societitas LXI

We, Sovereigns East, Culann and Honig

Praise Violet’s Mind, Heart and Hand

And grant her presence in the Order of the Maunche,

For a gladsome gyre, of motion and form

Upon the Award  Documents and the brilliant,

passionate, practiced and polished pages she produces

(She) Had to do it after their child had been put to bed, and the servants had gone to their garrets, and it was quiet in the house. Just think, Charlie Brown: she wrote the book seven times with a dip pen. And you're telling me you can't even BLOG it once?
