Because the recipient listed their persona as a, “mix of Irish and South American Indigenous heritage” and the art they create reflected her persona, the scribe wanted to use the Mendoza codex and the General History of the Things of New Spain by Fray Bernardino de Sahagún: The Florentine Codex. Volume 1, and Florentine Codex as inspirations.
I decided to use a traditional scroll language to highlight the inspiration source.
The first few, easily found searches I made for this time and place kept on bringing up the Spanish Requirement, The Requerimiento (1513). Most specifically, I was NOT going to use it. This document was used to justify the abominations against the people already living in the Americas. From all modern perspectives this treatise is disgusting and infuriating. I eventually had to put down the internet and walk away for a while.
History is not pretty. Even as we try to recreate the best parts.
Which is a long winded way of saying that I looked for other sources for composing this piece.
Even if the end result sounds similar I just can't ethically, emotionally, and morally use the Requirement as a source.
I started looking for Letters of Patent instead:

The Google Translate of the piece was not comprehensive.

I took inspiration from the piece above and wrote the scroll. Some sentences appear to have no direct relation to the original piece, because they were so manipulated toward the needs of the scroll. Though the goal is for them to sound and feel like the treatise.
As the original is in a letter format, the words re as well, and has an introductory address. Addressing the populace/letter reader with a bit more flowery language, the piece essentially uses the Íñigo Montoya System of how to introduce yourself to make an impression.
The structure is simple and consists of four steps:

All present today, are witness to the carrying out of duties by Their Royal Majesties Matthias Rex and Feilinn Regina of the Kingdom East.
"My name is Íñigo Montoya" - Identify yourself.
Since the point of view of this letter is from TRM, this would be Their Majesties identifying themselves and where they are from.
As Such We recognize those arts that Our Martina De La Rosa has submersed herself in and observe her decorous participation in the presentations and displays of Our Kingdom. Her subjects are varied and impeccable with attention paid to the multitude of details as seen within.
"You killed my father" - Indicates a relevant relationship.
Describing the recipient of the award and some of the nature of their artistic endeavors. While there is no detail in regards to the nature of their art, the illumination will serve that purpose. The recipient focuses on the arts of the Americas in the late time period of the SCA.
Their arms had passed and were recorded in OSCAR in early September of this year. I received the assignment in mid September. Their new name and arms weren’t even on their wiki page! Margarette La Gantiere, the Illuminator and calligrapher, had gone to OSCAR and found them.

All credit to Íñigo, but he did not include a where and when portion of his address, presumably because he assumes that his opponent was right in front of him and would not need the formality of the place and date of the altercation.In deviating from the Íñigo Montoya method, I went to the original source material. The letter ends with, “the second harvest of September in the year of the 500th anniversary of the birth of the Lord Milesius.”
This event is in November, six months after the May first anniversary of the Society for Creative Anachronism. The conclusion is written to reflect that phrasing.
